Road Trip June 20, 2017

Sorry the late post.  Our days have been very active, and it has been a task beating the heat, even making hiking a challenge.  We get the early start and have been finishing by noon, it has not been terrible, but has limited our miles.

Yesterday we attempted our hike of “Devils Bridge”.  Devils Bridge is one of Sedona’s coolest hikes.  It is the highest, natural stone arch in Sedona, and you can hike to and over it.  Only problem is, you need a high clearance vehicle to get to the trailhead. A least in this heat, that is where you want to start the hike.  It is normally a 1 mile in and 1 mile out, very steep hike.  Turned out, we could not make it to the trail head in our little rental, as the road was too rugged for this low clearance vehicle.

Despite the heat and the car obstacle, Todd and I decided we would hoof it down the access road to the trail head.  We did, however, to find it was nearly 1.5 miles just to get to the trail head.  The heat was too much for us, and this is a technical and dangerous hike.  We only had a gallon of water each.  It was 120 degrees, and neither one of us thought it smart to attempt a pretty difficult 5 mile hike.  We cut our loses and hiked back to the car.  Although, only 3 miles, we steamed through our water supply.  Our decision was a good one!

We then grabbed some breakfast, at what has become our favorite breakfast spot, “The Coffee Pot”.  You have your choice of 101 different omelettes, and a full breakfast menu.  We needed this energy, as our next hike would be Cathedral Rock.

Cathedral Rock is one of five popular vortex in Sedona.  This was a short hike, but entailed some climbing and scrambling.  It was worth the hike in the 120 degrees.   I have added some links to these locations, please click on them to learn more.

Our hiking adventures ended up to be a little over 5 miles and lots of water.  Todd and I then ventured into Sedona Village and did some window shopping and iced coffee.  Tlaquepaque Village, is Sedona’s market place, the layout makes it a nice little outing and the stores are so nice.  We enjoyed our visit, this is where Todd purchased my hat.

We were pretty wiped out and headed back to the hotel for a cold beer, glass of wine and fun in the pool. We ended our day with a lovely dinner at the Mesa Grille at Sedona Airport.  The food was outstanding and the setting unforgettable.  The runway is only 5100 feet long and apparently able to accommodate a G5!  I would be a little scared.  Not many options here, as this is the only mesa flat and long enough to accommodate a runway.  Enjoy some of our videos and pics!
