Epic day, we made it to Sedona. I let the old mule (Todd) sleep in. We hit the road at 8:15 and set out to Cadillac Ranch, where Todd and I felt liberated with the assistance of a can of spray paint. We adorned the dead Caddis with old school graffiti, and I took some photos. Real neat spot but unsuspected amongst the high desert. Our route today: 40W, 17S to 89A. Gas total for today $60. The drive through the Canyon is always breathtaking, and reaffirms that God “does” exist.
One day ahead of schedule, we had to find a last minute hotel, our hotel is not reserved till tomorrow. We checked in and ventured out to one of our favorite spots, Mesa Grill. Dinner was off the hook. Colorado Red Trout, green chili grits, street corn and spinach. They remove the skin and deep fry it, then place it back on top of the trout, damn!!!
Mesa Grill not only has brilliant food, but is adjacent to the only airport in Sedona. Private jets land as you dine. I have to admit, I would not want to land on this runway. It is the only mesa long enough to support a G6, and I would be frightened.
We Caught the last leg of sunset and a peek at the moon. We are 3 hours behind eastern time, but our bodies still feel 3 hours beyond.
Tomorrow we will start with some grazing, vitamin I, a trip to the Hike House, and then a short 5 mile hike, just to get us adjusted after three days on the road.
The weather here is beautiful, 80’s and 90’s with sun shining bright. After our hike we will venture out to Page Springs Cellars, for a little vino and lunch, and end the day with a visit to Chapel of the Holy Cross, and light a candle for Mom and Uncle Augie.
Sleep with the angels. Tomorrow is a busy day.
“Even After
All this time
The Sun never says to the Earth,
“You owe me.”
Look What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the whole sky.”
