“If you think you’ve peaked, find a new mountain.”
Just about two months away, Todd and I are finalizing our itinerary. We made a couple of changes, adding some new stops along the way. At some point I will post our entire itinerary for those of you interested in following our steps, or just want the bones of a road trip.
Day 3: Many folks think of Yellowstone as an “in and out of the car” experience. The park is massive, 2.2 million acres and 900 miles of hiking trails. We will take advantage of these trails. Todd and I will spend our first full day hiking The Dunraven Pass up to Mount Washburn.
This will be a climb, and am thinking we will encounter some snow heading to the top. I do hope we get to see a grizzly (from afar). Todd will carry my gear for this one! Lots of vitamin I and water before this trek. Read more details here: dunraven-pass-to-mt-washburn-trail.
The altitude is a little over 10,000 feet, it may slow us down, but we will get there! It is tough to say. Altitude sickness starts anywhere over 8000 feet. I experienced it on our last road trip. We stopped in Vail, CO at a little over 8000 feet, I got real winded and was in slomo. I experienced some insomnia and a headache, I found that drinking tons of water is the best preparation, limited alcohol intake also. A couple of days later I hiked just fine in the Rockies at 10000 feet, go figure!
There are many factors surrounding AMS, but the cure is easy, just get lower. A rule of thumb, hike high and sleep low. Read more about AMS.
Day 4: Sunrise at Artist’s Point (Uncle Tom’s Trail) then off to pick up my best friend at Yellowstone Regional. Tammy and Tommy will join Todd and I for a good portion of our road trip. There is no greater gift than sharing such nature with your best friend, truly blessed!
Todd and I will already have had two solid days in Yellowstone. A lot of time with my camera and lots of exploring. This day will be set aside for the main attractions, we will enter from the east, here is an easy map, and a few stops we will make. I hope “Old Faithful” keeps her promise!

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
This will be a full day of sight seeing and trekking. Sunset at Norris and Upper Geyser basins concluded by dinner at 8th Street Restaurant .
Look out for our next post.. and thanks for following!
